Dominion Youth Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded by Leea Power. It is located in Charleston, South Carolina.
Leea has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Marquette University, a Master’s degree in Supervision and Leadership from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and a terminal degree in Leadership and Supervision from Capella University.
She has been in education for over 35 years - serving as a classroom teacher, learning coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. As a principal, Leea has had over 17 years of successful administrative leadership experience encompassing all levels - elementary school, middle school, and high school. The majority of her administrative experience was in a high-needs urban setting – students that were impoverished, at-risk, or in need of an alternative school experience.
Leea decided to combine her love of education with her love of basketball in 2002, when she formed the Giveback Foundation in Milwaukee, WI. The Giveback Foundation offered students an opportunity to grow academically and athletically.
In 2010, Leea formed Youth of Duluth, located in Duluth Minnesota. This is where she developed the ABC (Academics, Basketball, and Character) program - a summer program that offered Youth of Duluth participants two hours of reading and two hours of math daily in an effort to combat summer academic loss while giving students an opportunity to close the education gap. She also formed the Study Ball program- an afterschool program that offered Youth of Duluth participants an hour and a half of tutoring support prior to playing organized basketball. Dominion Youth Inc. allows her the opportunity to combine her two passions - academics and basketball.
